Strong growth in the State’s food and wine sector, our proven commitment to deliver on food integrity and Victoria’s proximity to key markets has generated international success.
The food industry is a key component of Victoria’s economy. Victorian food and beverage exports were valued at $5.6 billion in 2007-08. This accounts for over a quarter of Australian food exports. The industry is supported by more than 30,000 primary producers and 2,000 food manufacturers, as well as a highly skilled workforce. It is also a significant employer, providing one in every five jobs in provincial Victoria.
Victoria’s food industry leads the nation on sustainable productivity growth through our ongoing commitment to industry innovation and ingenuity, and world-class research facilities.
The Victorian Government is a strong supporter of the food industry, and encourages its growth and prosperity by providing a positive business environment, specific programs focusing on growing exports and innovation, and quality infrastructure and support services.
This Taste Victoria publication profiles Victoria’s established food exporters, exciting developments in the industry and highlights our continued commitment in achieving the highest quality products through our superior traceability and safety processes.
