New South Wales is Australia’s largest food processing State, in value added terms. As importantly, our food and beverage industries are highly diverse, reflecting the State’s variety of growing conditions, our rich multicultural heritage, and the passions of our producers, processors, chefs and consumers.
In 2006/07, the value of New South Wales’ food exports totalled $AUD3.5 billion, with meat, grains and wine contributing nearly two-thirds.
Many of Australia’s largest food and beverage corporations, along with some of the world’s best known multinationals, base their Australian operations in this State, or have substantial manufacturing facilities here.
And there are hundreds of small growers and manufacturers producing distinctive, high-quality gourmet items. Many of these are also part of our burgeoning organics sector.
New South Wales has an excellent reputation for a “clean and green” growing environment, and for its research and development - some of Australia’s most advanced food production and processing laboratories are located here.
The New South Wales Government supports the State’s food industry by assisting businesses and sectors to develop, grow, promote and export innovative products and technologies. And our well-developed transport and logistics infrastructure help deliver NSW products across Australia and around the world.
This Taste New South Wales publication will give you an insight into some of our best food and beverage performers. I encourage you to visit our State and try a taste of New South Wales for yourself. We look forward to doing business with you soon.
Hon. Nathan Rees MP
Premier of New South Wales
